AFC Mansfield ended
the season in style by staving off Ollertons attempts to spoil the
party.
This was a game that could have easily turned to disaster and
leave AFC ending the season on a low.
However The Bulls players were
determined against all the odds to show a great home crowd of around 150
that they have had great success this season for a reason.
With several
players on the field carrying injury they took the game to Ollerton and
went ahead through a Dean Rick goal which now takes his tally over the
60 mark for the season.
Mark Carter added the second to settle any nerves
and AFC went into the break 2-0 up.
In the second half Ollerton huffed
and puffed but could not break down the resilient AFC team.
They were
unlucky not to get on the scoresheet but injured keeper Dale Shepherd
stood rooted when the ball cannoned off the post and he turned around
to grab the rebound.
The Bulls played on the break most of the second
half and it paid off as Dean Rick completed his hat trick and Mark
Carter added his second to make the final scoreline AFC Mansfield 5
Ollerton Town 0.
AFC now make the long trip to Westella on Tuesday night with a makeshift team to complete the season.
One thing is
for sure that the squad needs to be bigger and with the Under 19s
starting up players will not be asked to play through the pain barrier
as has been the case this season.
Hats off to them though, they have 2
trophies and 2 runners up medals to show for the commitment they have
given.
THESE BULLS ARE TOUGH !
