Well,well,well
what a week it has been.Firstly the Notts Intermediate cup on tuesday
in the 2-0 win over Beeston and thursday the Floodlit Cup.
The
Bulls were very nervous about this one as with so many games it is now a
test of endurance and they knew Newark were a physical side.
As the
sides came out this was quite apparent as the Newark side were in one
word massive,you could have been mistaken that they had sent the rugby
side instead.
However the referee kicked off with the right shaped ball
and AFC set about their business.
If anyone has been to Sutton there is a
big slope on it and with AFC kicking downhill they had to make the most
of it.
The Bulls had the lions share of the chances and matched their
opponents in some heavy challenges until Mark Carter latched onto
a loose back pass rounded the keeper and finished from a tight angle to
make it 1-0 at half time.
Everyone commented that one
probably wasn't enough with the slope advantage but AFC had different
ideas and came out and attacked Newark in the second half and began to
dominate.
However against the run of play Newark equalised with a sloppy
goal as the AFC keeper struggled to scamper across his line due to
injury.
It looked like Newark would now make a game of it but Chris
Timmons put Mansfield back in front with a great header minutes
later.
The Bulls now went for it and had the bit between the teeth and up
popped Carl Haslam to make it three.
There was no coming back for Newark
from that point and Carl Haslam netted again to complete the scoring
with a resounding 4-1 win to The Bulls.
This all means another cup for the trophy cabinet and a fantastic season with possibly more to come.
