Well,well,well.Where
do you start with this Floodlit cup semi-final game away at
Westella.
The game had been postponed three times already and eventually
went ahead at the fourth attempt.
After a long treck up to Hull for a
midweek game the AFC Mansfield side started very promisingly and
controlled the game early on.
However with the game not being in anyway
dirty the referee found a reason to book 5 AFC players and the game
remained goalless at half time.
It was inevitable he was going to reach
for the red card on an AFC player and during the second half sent off
Matt Draper for apparently protesting one of the bookings leaving The
Bulls down to 10 men.
The game still didn't produce a goal and a little
later the referee sent off Danny Naylor for a second bookable offence
leaving AFC with
just nine players on the field.
This seemed to spur the away side and
Joe Naylor nearly sealed it hitting the post late on and they were in no
way going to give up on this one and the game ran out 0-0 and went into
extra time.
In extra time AFC stood firm until just before
the break when Westella took the lead from a corner to make it 1-0 at
the break.
Then the floodlights struck again with only one minute gone of
the second period and threw the game into darkness and the game was
abandoned.
Little is known of the rules on this one as 90 minutes had
been completed with the score 0-0.In extra time there was very little in
it and even at 1-0 down AFC looked like hitting back and had plenty of
time to do so.
It must be said that with everything against
them in this one the whole AFC Mansfield side can be very proud of their
performance and never say die attitude.
The league will have to decide
if the game was at a satisfactory
conclusion as the lights were timed to go off at the College for
10pm and extra time and penalties were never going to be completed no
matter what the score.
Pick the bones out of that one !
