The Nottinghamshire
Intermediate Cup 2nd Round
AFC Mansfield 4 – 0 Eastwood
Town Reserves
AFC Mansfield progressed into the last 16 of the
Intermediate Cup with a comfortable win against a very young Eastwood Town
Reserve side. The game never looked in
doubt but the young ‘Badgers’ deserve credit for continuing to play some
attractive passing football despite the obvious difference in class.
AFC went in front after just 2 minutes. Dean Rick made a surging run down he left
flank before pulling the ball back to Mark Carter who drilled the ball into the
right hand corner to open the scoring.
It then took the home side another 30 minutes to double
their lead. Sandwiched between the two
goals was an audacious looped 30 yard effort from Witton which Ed Eley, who was
making his debut for AFC, did well to tip over the bar.
Rick was provider again, setting up Carter for his second on
36 minutes, leaving McKenna with no chance from 10 yards.
Top scorer Dean Rick made it three on the stroke of half
time as AFC eased into a comfortable lead.
The second half was a run of the mill 45 minutes, AFC had
further chances to extend their lead but a combination of good saves from
McKenna and some wayward shooting kept the score down. Eastwood did play their part and as a group
of young players they didn’t let the club down and showed some real promise
going forward.
Mark Carter scored the fourth and final goal of the game
just after the hour mark with a flicked header from an Armstrong corner that nestled
in the far corner beyond Mckenna’s reach.
A comfortable win in the end and it’s back to league action
next week with a trip to Clay Cross Town, kick off 2pm.
