YOUNG BULLS ROUND UP

AFC Mansfield U18 2 - 2 Vernon FC U18

Vernon started strongest physically imposing themselves against the younger smaller lads of AFC Mansfield on the first game of the season at Rainworth Miners Welfare.

First half went to Vernon who scored 2 goals, 1 from a well worked combination on the left. The second from a defensive error when they intercepted a loose ball and slotted it past Morgan in the net.

Second half we went an extra man in midfield and domminated the ball playing to feet with a high press and a high defensive line.

We quickly got a goal back through Charlie Fletcher. Then 15 mins later we scored a deserved equaliser through Aaron Stafford From a corner.

With the energy gone from a physical Vernon and injection of urgency from AFC Mansfield we won a penalty from Joe Walsh who tried to win the game for us but sadly the penalty was saved. Ending 2-2.

The game was a good opener to the season in Notts Youth League Premier Division

Our next game is 18th September at home (Rainworth Miners Welfare), 10.30am KO.  Attendance is free, so come and see top youth level grass roots football and future AFC Mansfield players.

Linby CW 2 - 0 AFC Mansfield

AFC Mansfield first game of the season was against a strong Linby side, both teams I thought started well with chances at  both ends.

AFC centre forward Liam Carter had two chances half way through the first half but their goal keeper pulled off two great saves.

Our man of the match Jack Hardman made numerous top class saves to keep is in the game as well.  The breakthrough came in the first half when their centre forward slotted the ball past Jack.

AFC battled hard in midfield to no avail the ball was just not running for us at all.

The second half was much the same, nothing between the two sides until again Linby made it count, scoring to make it 2-0.  AFC pressed to the very end a good performance by all.
