In a decision that infuriated both sets of players and management the referee called a halt to proceedings after the rain and thundering had passed over. The game was halted on 20 minutes when the heavens opened and driving rain made it impossible for the players to see. 6 minutes later the players were back on the pitch to continue with the game after the bad weather had blown over.
AFC Mansfield had gone in front when Danny Wiltshire got on the end of a Phil Buxton cross to fire home from 10 yards after just 11 minutes.
When play resumed 'The Bulls' doubled their lead when Joe Naylor found Dean Rick down the left flank. The striker held the ball up and played an inviting ball into the path of Sam Holmes who rifled his shot into the roof of the net on 33 minutes.
AFC Mansfield were on top by this point but did not see the premature end to a game they were likely to win.
The Bentley staff and management had worked so hard to get the game on and it is still a mystery why when it was still playable the referee decided to stop the game. Bentley footed the cost of all the three officials match fee and expenses and will have to pay the same again when the match is replayed in two weeks.
