AFC
Mansfield are now through to the quarter final of the Notts
Intermediate cup after a narrow 4-3 victory against local side Old
Elizabethans.
AFC started the game very brightly and knocked the ball
around well and soon took a commanding lead through two fantastic
strikes by in form hotshot Danny Naylor.
It was 2-0 at half time and the
AFC players must have gone into the break very complacent.Fair play to
the OEs side who came out all guns blazing second half and matched AFC
man for man and showed why they are unbeaten so far this season.
They
soon knocked 2 goals in and had AFC on the ropes, however consistent
scorer Mark Carter hit back to make it 3-2 to The Bulls.
OEs were not
giving up without a fight and got a late penalty to make it 3-3 and the
game went into extra
time.
Manager Micky Taylor could be heard giving his side a
dressing down during the interval and fair play to the Mansfield side
they came out with a different attitude in extra time.
Striker Carl
Haslam was very unlucky on a couple occasions as he ran at the defence
and looked to be back to his best.
It was Mark Carter again who sealed
the victory as he bagged his second to make it 4-3 and send AFC
Mansfield through.
AFC Mansfield now look forward to the away
trip to Ollerton next saturday which will be a very tough test and give
an indication where the title may go.
