AFC Mansfield 4 – 0 Easington
United
A brace from Dean Rick and goals from Danny Tighe and Phil
Buxton secured another win for high flying AFC.
With Carl Haslam, Ricky Chambers and Steve McGurk missing
manager Micky Taylor introduced two new signings in Mitchell Slawson and Nathan
Booth-Cantrill.
Once again the visitors had come with a defensive
plan in
mind, playing with just one striker and packing the midfield. AFC were
going to have to be patient and this was true as Easington held them at
bay in the first half.
It was 20 minutes before either side recorded a decent
effort on goal, Rick turning neatly in the box before curling his effort over
the bar.
Rick went close again on 31 minutes, latching on to a Mark
Carter through ball he drove his shot across the face of the goal but wide of
the far post.
Slawson had the best chance of the half when his low drive
was turned around the post by Charlie Holden in the Easington goal.
Rick was getting some close attention from Easington captain
Andy Graham and the skipper found his way into the book on 36 minutes for
another late tackle. In fact Graham
could consider himself lucky to be still on the pitch at half time as he
clattered Rick a couple more times before the break.
So it was half a job done for Easington at half time, this
however was not going to last. Two
minutes into the second half and AFC Mansfield were in front.
Slawson advanced down the right before
cutting inside and laying the ball off for Rick to fire the ball home off the
underside of the bar.
Easington had a rare chance on goal on the hour mark from a corner
Luke Taylor heading wide on the far post.
Matt Draper rattled the crossbar on 71 minutes from a Danny
Tighe corner, the ball half cleared and eventually fell to Tighe 25 yards
out. The full back let loose a superb
drive that nestled into the far corner of the net to double ‘The Bulls’ lead.
Phil Buxton made it 3-0 on 78 minutes, driving home from the
edge of the box after Graham had eventually been dismissed for another fouls on
Rick.
Rick got his second minutes from the end, getting on the end
of a great move down the right involving Joe Meehan and Nathan Booth-Cantrill.
Another clean sheet for Dale Sheppard making it nine in ten
outings for the keeper and keeping AFC Mansfield top of the league.
